The elementary school at Johnstown Christian consists of Kindergarten through grade 5. Most of our elementary classes consist of 15-18 students. Our Kindergarten through 2nd grade classrooms are self-contained with one or two teachers. Our upper elementary, grades 3 through 5, participate in a departmentalized setting. Teachers instruct in areas of expertise: Bible, Science, Mathematics, Social Studies and Language Arts. The elementary program offers a personal atmosphere where children are safe and valued. The elementary division provides exceptional learning opportunities in basic academic skills in a Christ-centered program, therefore meeting both the academic and spiritual needs of young children.
To enhance the learning opportunities, the elementary program also provides regular classes in technology, music, art, physical education, spanish and library skills. In an effort to meet each child's academic needs, we have a Resource Room as well as a Gifted Program (Challenge). Each year, students participate in local and regional competitions:
- Association of Christian Schools International Competitions: Math Olympics, Speech Meet, Creative Writing, and Spelling Bee
- IU8: Reading Competition
Elementary students are provided with many occasions during the year to participate in service projects. These are generally group efforts related to scriptural mandates for serving as Jesus would. Regularly scheduled chapels provide further opportunities for spiritual growth.
The Kindergarten program at JCS is a full-day program that meets four days per week, Monday - Thursday.
