Tribute Democrat – Reader’s Forum, August 20, 2016
Every time I write to the Reader’s Forum, I’ve complained about conditions in our area. I will now comment on something good that our area has to offer.
To find a positive development, we need look no further than Soap Hollow and the Johnstown Christian School. For those who think that throwing more money at education will improve our children’s learning, they must take a closer look at the results.
Yes, the teachers could always be paid more than they receive now, but that’s not the issue. The teachers, administrators and staff at JCS are committed to turning out not only well-educated children, but also ones with good character from moral and ethical development.
The students learn life lessons, such as love and respect for all, kindness and consideration and to be forgiving and helpful to their fellow man. They learn these lessons because that is part of the Christian faith that is taught at JCS.
Teachers are even allowed to pray with their students.
True Christian principles teach us to be loving and gracious to others regardless of our racial, ethnic or religious differences. All lives matter, and that is taught at JCS.
Some facts about JCS students: Their SAT test scores are competitive with other area schools; 24 students who graduated in 2016 received $1.1 million in scholarships.
