On Monday, October 22, eight middle school students attended the ACSI (Association of Christian School International) Middle School Leadership Conference in Butler, Pennsylvania. At the conference, students learned about the symptoms of being “alone” and its effect on their community. They met in small groups with students from other schools and discussed issues like bullying, peer pressure, anxiety, depression, and more. The conference leaders walked students through the process of discovering their leadership styles and allowed students to understand how they can work with other students of different leadership styles. In small groups, students worked to identify and use his or her leadership style to work with others in overcoming student-identified issues.
During the conference, JCS middle school students felt anxiety was a major issue facing students their age. They decided they wanted to organize student-facilitated study groups in order to build students’ confidence and ease anxiety related to studying.
