This is the thirteenth year that Miss Laura Courtney has had the opportunity to serve at an English Camp in Kyiv, Ukraine. In addition to the usual camp, she was able to serve in Budapest, Hungary, with her friend Sadie Sprankle (‘13), who is in full-time ministry there.
At the camp in Hungary, the students were 11-16 years old and had varying levels of English. In addition to games, discussions, and worship, Laura and Sadie taught several English lessons every day. Laura worked with the advanced students using lessons that Sadie had developed. The team worked to develop relationships with the kids and with their Hungarian translators.
Between camps, Laura was able to spend a few days with Sadie, which was a huge blessing for both of them! Sadie was able to show Laura a few of her favorite places in Budapest, like the largest synagogue in Europe. They were also able to spend some time with Sadie’s team and attend her church. Laura said, “One of the highlights of the trip was partnering with Sadie in her ministry. It was awesome to see her in her element serving God!”
From Budapest, Laura traveled to Kyiv to help lead an English camp for university students. Throughout camp, they played games, had Bible discussions, watched a movie about the life of Christ, shared testimonies, sang worship songs, and clearly presented the Gospel. God worked powerfully through the activities and the team to show Himself to the students. Laura added, “It was a wonderful blessing to be able to serve in Kyiv again. I am grateful that God made a way for me to go and that He used me to impact the lives of Ukrainians.”
