In July of 2017, two vans of youth and adults traveled to Lost Creek, KY, to enjoy fellowship with the faculty and staff of Riverside Christian School and Caney Creek Conservative Mennonite Church. Of those two vans, more than half of us were JCS students, employees or patrons! Those from JCS were: Julieann, Nathan and Audrey Hart; Carrie, Bobby and Brielle Antesberger; Lesly, Josh, Madison and Emma Roose; Breanna Gerhardt, Daniel Hostetter, Jeanna Harclerode, Nick Rohrabaugh, Mason Jefferys, Sharon and Jason Crissman. The thing that we enjoyed the most was the Vacation Bible School
we do there. That church averages just a handful of children and youth all year and then when we show up, they get 50-60 children and youth each evening. We have the opportunity to tell them about Jesus! The pastor, Tommy Miller, has called several times since July and said, “Some of the community youth or children have shown up for worship today!”
Another project this year was to prepare a home on campus for Tommy Miller’s daughter and her family. The family moved into the home we fixed up in time to start serving God on campus this school year. You may join us in praying for that school (teachers receive $200 a month wage with no benefits) and that church. They are both truly a light in a dark place. What started as mission trips many years ago has transitioned into a faith partnership with people who happen to live in the poorest county in Kentucky and who welcome us as faithful friends sent by God to walk alongside them several times a year.
